Brambles Puppies

 Born on 27th February 2014

Brambles gave birth to five puppies, 2 boys and 3 girls on 27th February 2014,

All puppies doing well and after 10 days are no longer called One, Two, Three, Four and Five, they now have names, although just in house working names two have been named by our grandchildren and one by a neighbours daughter and we chose the last two, in order of birth Gabe (short for Gabriel), Flash, Amy, Dee Dee and Peaches.

We have registered our Kennel name as Danscape with the Kennel Club. But we have not registered the dogs kennel club name as yet. We are keeping the Kennel Club names a secret at the moment until they are registered.

Four in a pile 11 days old

It is now day 14 and all of a sudden they have all stood and started to walk on all fours instead of dragging around the whelping box, their eyes are starting to open but they are still blind for a few more days.

We have also cut their razor sharp claws which is a relief for Brambles as they pummel their paws into her as they suckle.

Day 17, the puppies are growing fast, they are getting steadier on their paws and their eyes are fully open. You can see them wondering what everything is and barking at each other. They race to be fed and Amy the smallest is not last to mum for a feed , she hangs on for grim death whilst the others push her around, she spins upside down still suckling and refusing to let go.

Day 19, We have now registered the puppies and they now have their Kennel Club names, the boys are

Danscape Brambleson,   that is Gabe

Danscape Robson Flash,   that is Flash now Milo

Danscape Princess Amy,   that was Amy and now Darcey

Danscape Hazel Surprise,   that is Dee Dee

Danscape Gregorys Girl,   that was Peaches and now Ruusu

Day 23,  Today we thought we would see how well the puppies are at lapping up food. we made a small amount of gruel, (puppy food ground down and mixed with puppy milk) they all loved it. That was the first stage of weaning them off mum.

Day 32, All the girls have now been chosen for new homes, Dee Dee is the one off to Devon, Peaches has a family to go to and has been renamed Ruusu, which is Rose in Finnish, and Amy has a solicitor who will take her to work with him.

Day 35,  They are growing fast, first they appear to be fat and cuddly then next day they have slimmed down but grown longer! Sue and I take turns to sit in their play area and play with them, our son in-law pinched my slippers off my feet  and seconds later I had five sets of razor sharp puppy teeth sinking into my feet, whilst the son in-law laughs! When they had finished with my feet Gabe decided to examine my pocket whilst the other four liked the look of my trouser. So it was time to tickle some tummies. That changed to five puppies climbing on me and chewing my beard. After 30 mins of that I dont know who was more tired me or the puppies. But I lived to tickle them another day.

Day 40  The puppies now have their own food bowls as we could not be sure who got what, well now we have 5 bowls being chased around!! oh what fun. I will make a stand for them, Little Miss Darcey does not leave her bowl till its clean and makes sure no one else gets their head in it until its empty, will video it soon. We have a local family (which means we will see him often and watch him grow) interested in one of the dogs but its a hard decision which one.

That's not a problem for us as we are happy to wait for the decision unless we have someone interested in a dog also.

The new mark one puppy feeding tray!!!!!

no more of five puppies chasing five bowls around whilst trying to eat!!!

Success.

Day 41  The local family have now chosen Flash and are now thinking of a name. We have received another email requesting a    puppy from another local family who will come to see the last remaining puppy Gabe, he was first to be born and is a lovely lad, mind you I am biased.

Day 42 (6 weeks old) All the puppies have had their first inoculations and microchips  today, all were very brave although Miss Darcey did not like the microchip, mind you its a big thing for the smallest of the pack, all had a health check all ok.  When we arrived home a family from Stamford had come to see Gabe, well I knew they would fall in love with him, so he has found a new home , first born last to new home, a family with two small children, he and the children will have fun we are sure.

We have had happy stories of why the new families want one of our puppies and some very sad stories, but all puppies accounted for, all have gone to homes were they have or had dogs before, which is a relief as we know their new families will know how to care for them and will love them as we do ours, which is a worry off our minds. Aubrey in Devon who is a farmer and says "animals outside people inside" has been told to give Dee Dee plenty of hugs or I will send my wife down to sort him out!! Only joking, we know he will love her, but she will have a working life and hopefully her breeding will come through.

Has anybody seen our dad?

Day 44 Ruusu's new family came for a visit today, I think they enjoyed themselves, well the puppies did!!! They ran and played for 2 hours then slowly one by one the made their own way to their day bed in the kitchen. Its a hard life being a puppy, especially with so many people to play with and get cuddles from.

Day 52 (7 wks plus 3 days) Its been a busy week for the puppies, we have had our two grandchildren staying and as they originally named Amy and Flash the confusion over names continues. The puppies have had 5 days of children screaming and running around them. They have been picked up, stroked both forward and back, hugged and kissed and they never flinched, that is the puppies.

The weather has been good and the door to the side path (puppy area) has been open from 7 am to 7 pm. The idea is that they will start to go to the toilet outside. Well they seemed to poo outside and some came back in to wee!!! Oh the joys of wiping up puppy wee.

It seems that they sleep in a grow bag as every day they have grown or altered in some way. We have had them out on the grass every day wearing us out, it was suppose to wear them out. Bracken has been chased by his girlfriend Ruusu, which he finds a bit strange and grumbles at all the puppies whilst wagging his tail.

They were wormed again on Thursday and are due for their second inoculations next Thursday. Miss Darcy's family came to see her and also Winston's family and their young children.

8 weeks old  They all had their second inoculations today and had a medical check up, all were given a clear bill of health. Ruusu was the only one who did not like the injection but no more than many a pup. We have now changed their meals to three times a day increasing the meal quantity to keep the same overall daily amount. They have a small supper of milk and eggs.

As we always have the back door open during the day they are now weeing and pooing outside although we still have the odd accident. The main mess is over night but that will improve.

We have altered the rear or the car by putting our divider which we use when Brambles is in season and adding a temporary gate to keep the puppies back from the tail gate. They had a short drive yesterday, longer one planned in the next few days.

Well only one week away from the pups starting to leave their nest. Not sure if we are prepared for it but will have to be. The house will be empty, no more chasing around the garden, no more being attacked, no more having my beard nibbled and my socks and trousers pulled, no more cuddles and that's just from the wife !!!!  They change every day, one day they get longer then the next taller, their eyes change and their faces get longer and thinner, in fact they are growing up. They are becoming escape artist by climbing the fence and even the wall.  Its been a joy, but yes the hard times is getting closer daily.

Hey Dad now I have got this far,

what do I do next?

Nothing on TV tonight!

9 weeks  We have prepared packs for each puppy, consisting of a information sheet with date and time of birth, weights as they grow, pictures, vet details, worming, inoculations, micro chipping, kennel club, health checks on parents, food and portions, times of feed, grooming, socialising ie:- experience of hoovers, washing machines, tumble dryers, radio, mops, children, car journey, having their paws, ears, teeth, tail handled and lying on their back with a tummy rub. Hopefully these details and our actions will make the puppy more friendly and easier to handle. We also added the pedigree chart, food parcel, a blanket and toy they have had for 5 weeks so the smell of their siblings is on it to help her settle in a new home.

9 1/2 weeks Its been a very busy week, computer repaired, then broke again!! We have lost three of our puppies to new homes.  Two on Friday, first to go was Miss Darcey who has settled down and is living the high life with Ruby a King Charles Spaniel. Next was Winston who has joined a family with two children and he has also settled in and is loving all the attention. Then on Bank Holiday Monday we lost Ruusu to a family with two grown up boys who are learning what a puppy attack is. Again she  has settled in with her new friend Izzy.

This left Milo who is due to move on Wednesday to a family nearby so we will see him more often and Dee Dee who is staying with us until we take her to Devon in a few weeks. Milo and Dee Dee are now enjoying sleeping in the evening in the lounge, still in a kennel and are getting house trained.  That means up and down all evening when they whimper so still no rest.

Its been hard to see our little family move on, they have brought so much fun (and poo and wee!!!!) and now it is getting quieter. Each one changed daily in so many ways, they would jump at you whilst one would nip at your trousers or ankles. No more cuddles, ears nipping, nose biting and belly rubbing and that's just from me! We have a still got a job to do, house train and train Dee Dee before we take her in the caravan to Devon. We have decided that Dee Dee is going to be the only dog that Aubrey, the farmer, will have had that's house trained. She will be trained as a working dog and as such will live in a kennel, so these weeks with us will be a far cry from her new home. Because of this she may be the hardest to let go, but she will be looked after just not as a pet.

We have so many videos and photos  that we have run out of storage so when we get the computer running reliably we will sort them out. We also hope to add photos of the pups as they grow.

All the puppies now have new homes to go to, but the question is being asked will we mate her again? It was not our intention to have more than one litter but all have turned out  beautiful, we will wait and see how Mum is. We have now had more enquiries than we have puppies! Time will tell and a year is a long time in a dogs life.
